💰 Package: Circa £72,000 DOE + £7,500 car allowance

JS Recruitment are proud to be partnering with a leading construction business to recruit a Commercial Manager—a strategic, hands-on role ideal for a proven commercial leader with experience developing commercial teams and overseeing diverse client portfolios.

This is more than a traditional commercial management post; it’s an opportunity to shape and lead a commercial function delivering multi-client, multi-workstream construction projects including complex refurbishments, specialist fit-outs, and M&E packages—often in live or occupied environments.

The successful candidate will report to the Construction Director and take full commercial ownership from tender to final account while guiding a growing team of Quantity Surveyors.


🔑 Key Responsibilities

Team Development & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of QS professionals working across multiple workstreams and clients.
  • Embed commercial structure, standards, and accountability across the department.
  • Foster a culture of performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Project & Client Oversight

  • Manage the commercial lifecycle of multiple concurrent projects across live, new-build, and refurbishment sites.
  • Ensure consistent delivery across diverse client bases, balancing varying requirements and commercial frameworks.
  • Maintain oversight of budgets, valuations, procurement, variations, and final accounts.

Commercial Strategy & Risk Management

  • Oversee contractual and financial aspects under JCT/NEC and bespoke contracts.
  • Identify, mitigate, and report on commercial risk.
  • Support bids, cost planning, and pricing strategies across the business.

Client & Supply Chain Engagement

  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier and subcontractor relationships to support commercial delivery.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the construction industry, with a strong track record in main contracting.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop QS teams working on multiple concurrent projects for different clients.
  • Broad sector exposure including e.g. refurbishment, specialist works, fit-out, and M&E etc.
  • Strong commercial acumen and confident handling contract negotiation, cost control, and reporting.
  • Experienced working within fast-paced, operationally complex environments.
